BEAR BOAT AUGUST 2006 TRIP (LIMIT 6)

The dates and details for this amazing 7-day/6 nights on-the-boat trip have been finalized.  We will fly to Kodiak on the early morning of August 1, 2006.  As you must be in Anchorage on the afternoon of Monday, July 31, it is strongly recommended that you arrive in Anchorage on Sunday July 30. Why? If you miss the flight to Kodiak on the early morning of August 1st, you miss the boat....

We will then travel by van to a spot on Kodiak where we will be met by Chuck and the boat.  We will head for Katmai via boat stopping to photograph at several spots nearby and in the Shelikof Strait at several bird rookeries along the way and stopping for otters and whales as needed.  We will most likely concentrate on the bird colonies and the marine mammals for the first full day.  After that, it will pretty much be all coastal Brown Bears...

Weather permitting, the trip will include five full and two half-days of photography.   Subjects should include Coastal Brown Bear (100% guaranteed), Bald Eagle (large or just fledged chicks probable), Glaucous-winged Gull (most likely including recently fledged young), some puffins (both species) in flight from the skiff, and Black-legged Kittiwakes nesting on island cliffs, Stellar's Sea Lion (an endangered species), and Sea Otter. We may do a bit of halibut fishing as well.

The cost of the trip will be $5999.00.  A $1,000 non-refundable deposit check is required. (Sorry, no credit cards or Paypals. The purchase of travel insurance is strongly advised.) The trip fee includes in-the-field instruction, slide programs on laptop, image sharing and critiquing, all meals on the boat (think five-star restaurant), the round-trip airfare from Anchorage to Kodiak, the return float plane flight from the boat to Kodiak, dinner at the Glacier Brewhouse in Anchorage on the night of July 31, and your hotel (double occupancy) for the night of July 31 as well.  Airfare from your home to Anchorage is not included.

expect that this trip will sell out almost immediately as there are not many places where you can get close to the bears while feeling so safe, and there are not many guides as bear-savvy as Chuck Keim.  We will be taking only six folks on this trip.

We already have deposits from three folks, but I need at least four folks for this trip to go.  If I do not have four deposits by November 3, I will be forced to cancel the trip.  In that unlikely event, your deposit will of course be fully refunded.

If you are serious about joining us, act now.  You can reserve a spot by calling me today at 863-692-0906.
