The Art of
Bird Photography II (on CD only) is the all-new continuation of the How-To
classic, "The Art of Bird Photography; The Complete Guide to Professional Field
Techniques." One chapter covers all aspects of Digital Photography and
includes a section on understanding histograms. It also includes Artie’s
digital workflow along with tons of great Photoshop tips. Other chapters
include "Equipment; What's New?," "Advanced Composition and Image Design," "It
Ain't Just Birds," "Exposure and Flash Simplified," and "Advanced Sharpness
Techniques & Creating Pleasing Blurs." The "Practicalities" chapter includes a
detailed section on setting up your backyard for bird photography as well as
sections on photographing on safari and on the tundra. Each image in the book
includes the all technical data and is accompanied by the legendary educational

The original
“The Art of Bird Photography; The Complete Guide to Professional Field
Techniques was released in 1998 by Amphoto, NY. 15,000 copies were sold. The
classic how-to work was re-released in soft cover in 2003 and another 15,000
copies have been sold since then. I was surprised to learn a few months ago
that Amphoto is letting the book go out of print. I immediately decided to
re-publish the book on my own and am currently working toward that end. To avoid
confusion the book will feature the original cover and a similar title, “The Art
of Bird Photography.” The content of the book will remain unchanged.

Light on the Earth (Book)
About six months ago I
received an e-mail informing me that one of my images, "Fire in the Mist,"
had been chosen for inclusion in the book, "Light on the Earth," a
compilation of twenty years of the best winning and commended images in the
BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. I was thrilled of
course, but a bit disappointed that only one of my five commended images
had been chosen. As I read on, I was quite a bit more thrilled when I
learned that "Fire in the Mist" would not only appear in
the book but would be used as cover art, gracing the partial wrap-around
dust jacket. The book, which features 170 images, is--at 224 pages and just
under five pounds--a large one by any standards. The images are of course
for the most part breath-taking (though I would disagree with a few of the
choices...) In addition to the images, there are essays by some of the
world's premier photographic artists including one of my idols, Jim
Brandenburg.
We have a limited number of
